The days of smokey, dimly lit game rooms and arcades are all gone..
But wait! I have ferreted out some dark corners of the GA400 corridor that still possess the legendary machines known simply as Pinball.
So what is the Pinball Rally about? Look, it’s hot out. Sitting in a convertible baking in the sun for hours might have been fun in the 70’s when we didn’t know any better but today things are better with moderation and air conditioning. The premise of this rally is simple. We will meet at the North River Tavern, 8879 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs at 11:00AM. While waiting for everyone to arrive, early arrivals will warm up and play ‘The Avengers’. After we have all set our best score, we will depart at 12:00 noon and drive to several other locations in the area to play more pinball, eat etc. Average travel time between destinations is about 10 minutes of urban street driving. Not too fun, but I’ve chosen the best back road routes I could come up with. Each location has food and drink as well as A/C so that should offset the hassles in getting to each location. We will spend about an hour or so at each location to talk, shoot the bull and just play pinball like it’s 1978. At each location we will record our high scores and tally them up at the end. As we are finishing where we started, you will have a chance to make one last ditch effort (1 game) at conquering ‘The Avengers’ and possibly increasing your standing. You’ll have to determine if it makes sense based on your other scores. Highest cumulative total of top scores across all machines will determine the winners. The three prize winners will receive gift cards in the amount of $30 for first, $20 for second and $10 for third from the business of your choice.
The total event time will be about 4-5 hours and we will finish at the same location we started. Each game you play will cost you about a buck and you can play as many games as you want in an attempt to reach your best high score. Bring some quarters so we don’t have to hassle the staff as much with change.
Sounds like fun? I think it will be.
